Dawn

Dawn is ResMed's generative-AI sleep-health assistant. It launched September 30, 2024 for CPAP therapy users in the US, inside the myAir app and on the web. Users can ask about ResMed products, their therapy, and their equipment in plain language at any hour. In myAir, Dawn may also use limited sleep-therapy and connected health-app data when that feature is available to the user.

The boundary matters as much as the capability: ResMed describes Dawn as an experimental AI assistant, not a human or a substitute for a qualified healthcare provider. It can explain, coach, and troubleshoot, but its answers can still be incomplete or wrong. That public framing captures the kind of product we were trying to build—support that is easier to reach without pretending that an AI conversation replaces care.

Starting therapy creates questions that rarely arrive on a clinic's schedule: mask comfort, unfamiliar scores, troubleshooting, or whether a small change is normal. Dawn gives people a place to ask those questions between appointments and receive explanations and therapy tips based on the context available in myAir.

In June 2026, ResMed AI leader Philomena Lamoureux publicly reported that Dawn had crossed 1.5 million enquiries in beta. Her post described the goal as making support easier to access in vulnerable, ordinary moments—not replacing human care—and explicitly named me among the Dawn team. The 1.5 million figure is a product-and-team milestone, not a claim that I produced that outcome alone.

I built Dawn largely from the ground up as one of its core machine-learning engineers, from early architecture through production launch. One backend powers both surfaces, the myAir app experience and the web experience, and I built both.

The engineering foundation came out of platform work I did as a founding engineer on ResMed's internal GenAI platform: retrieval-augmented generation infrastructure, agent architectures, evaluation pipelines, and the security hardening a healthcare launch requires. Finer-grained contribution detail is being extracted from repository history and will land here once confirmed.
